June 08/June 09

I am in a crappy mood, lots to write about but no desire to do so. Ella wore an outfit today from last summer so I attempted to pose her the same way as previous pics to show her growth!

Oh yeah, I forgot last post to say.... even though Ella has grown she is still a shorty : ) She is a whooping 32 1/2 inches tall, which puts her in the 25th percentile for girls her age with Down syndrome (she doesn't even register on the "typical" growth chart) and weighs 29lbs which puts her in the 90th percentile for weight. She still wears size 18 to 24 month clothes. Poor kid. Oh and her head circumference is 49.5cm, which puts her totally off of the Down syndrome chart and in the 75th percentile for a "typical" kid!!! What can I say, big heads run in the family : ) The genetics doc we saw when Ella was 4 months old actually told us that kids with DS have smaller heads, and that it was really good that hers was large because it meant that her brain was growing normally and forcing her head to grow. While I am on the subject of her head, I know that kids with DS's softspots close later than the typical kid....but here we are 2 months away from her turning 3 and her softspot measures 1 1/2 inch wide by 1 1/2 inch long. It is DISGUSTING, I mean, I think they are all a bit repulsive but her's pulsates and is just this huge mushy place on her head. So, the question is how old was your kiddo when their softspot closed????

She just gets more adorable with every post! It's so amazing to look back a year, isn't it!?! I love doing the "then and now" thing too. :)

I don't know when Braska's soft spot closed, honestly, but it is closed, as far as I know. I'll have to check in the morning out of curiosity.

It's amazing how much she's grown and how she's changed from a toddler into a little girl!

Jax soft spot just barely closed and he is 3 1/2. Although his head also hasn't grown because of his brain injury, and he know has been diagnosed with microcephaly, I don't know if that makes a difference.

I can't believe the difference in her legs...they look so long. But what I really can't get over is how much her hair has grown. I hope my Ella grows hair someday.

She is adorable! My son, Christopher is 5 and his still hasn't closed. Although, when he was born almost the entire top of his skull was his "soft spot". We used to call him "hatchet head" when he was dehydrated because it would cave in. Kind of gross, I know. Those are things that only Moms of other kiddos with special needs "get", I think. :)

I can't believe how much she has grown! I'm going to have to dig through my photos for then and nows...

Chase is 25 months and still has quite a large soft spot...

Feel better...I hate those "moods" that just hang on and on...

Wow, chickie's got some legs now!!!

My daughter was a cardiac baby and my worst fear was that her heart would stop... so I adore watching that 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 spot on her head pulsating. It proves to me that her heart is pounding away with the promise of life.

Addy's soft spot pulsates too. I have been told not too worry! Addy is 2 1/2 and weighs 19 pounds even and is 30 inches tall and wears a 12 to 18 months clothes. Our kids are just tiny!

Ella Grace is such a doll. Thanks for sharing her cute pictures!

Carly's soft spot took forever to close. She was near 4 when it finally did! None of her, many doctors, were worried about it. They all said the same thing. Kids with Ds take longer to close up.

Kacey,
I am a "lurker" like I am on so many blogs. I just wanted to let you know I am here. Our daughters are the same age and it is fun to watch them "grow up together" in cyber space. You truly have a beautiful family and I love following your journey through life!

OMG- So, so cute! Her hair is getting SO long. I'm glad to be back.. I have had so much catching up to do! You will have to let me know when and where your buddy walk is. My dad and sister want to go to it!

BTW* A'Reian had her soft spot for an eternity.. geez, seems like it just went away at about 3ish. One day we were like, hey- its gone.

She is getting more and more beautiful! Soft spot--yikes. That would freak me out, too. I'm not sure when Samantha's closed, but it closed some time ago. Sorry I can't offer much advice about that. Did the doctor express any concern about it? I guess as long as it closes eventually, right?
